art || Time Lapse Wedding Ring Painting with Colour Pencils

Originally published March 5, 2017 on Cre84me.

Last weekend, I painted my great-grandmother’s wedding ring with colour pencils! I’m really proud of how it turned out. It took a long time (about four hours total), but I got to try some really cool techniques with colour pencils:

Originally, I planned to do a stroke-layering technique (where you can see individual strokes of colour that isn’t blended but it blends when it’s seen from afar) but I figured that a smooth shading/layering technique would suit the ring better.

I also tried using orange to make the blue duller (since they’re complimentary) instead of using black. Although the colours could use a little more improvement to look more like the real ring, I’m happy with how it turned out.

You can watch a time lapse video of the drawing here:

Let me know in the comments if there’s anything you’d like me to try drawing/sketching next time or if you have any questions about what materials I used!
