My mornings have a personality disorder. One day I’ll be up bright and early, with time to make a fantastic breakfast and pack a lunch. The next I’ll crawl out of bed, half-awake and race the clock to gobble a quick snack or make a little breakfast to eat while on the way to school.
But the one thing all my mornings have in common is breakfast! It’s my favourite meal of the day and, arguably, the most important. Here’s a list of some of my favourite go-to breakfast ideas accompanies by some super-artsy wanna-be food-photography photos I’m super proud of. 😛
All of these are:
- Time-friendly
- Healthy
- Satisfying (for both your taste-buds and your body… win-win!)
And they’re split by Savoury and Sweet, because when I wake up that’s the first thing I ask myself to determine what I’ll make for breakfast. Enjoy!
SAVOURY
Avocado Toast
This is so easy to make and SO yummy. All you need is:
- Bread
- Hummus
- Avocado slices
- Tomato
- Seasoning (salt, pepper, paprika/Italian seasoning)
Omelette with Veggies and Salad
This is a perfect recipe to use up any leftovers you have from yesterday’s dinner!
For the omelette:
- 2 eggs
- Toppings: Peppers, spinach, potatoes, olives, onions, mushrooms, zucchini, etc.
- Cheese: Feta, cheddar, mozzarella
For the salad:
- Leaves: Spinach, aragula, mixed greens
- Dressing: lemon and salt, balsamic vinaigrette and oil
Alternatively: Fried Egg and Salad/Leftovers
Quinoa Burgers
I got the cookbook 100 Days of Real Food from the local library once because I thought it looked cool, and once I tried this recipe I was HOOKED. You can find another similar version of the recipe here.
(I like to use food blogs for recipes – I don’t know why really, but I feel like their recipes are usually better.)
SWEET
Fruit Smoothie or Green Smoothie
Yum! I usually drink a smoothie after I’ve had a breakfast as a mid-morning snack. But if your breakfast tummy is smaller, then go for this as a full-on breakfast meal!
Fruit Smoothie:
- Banana
- Blueberries/strawberries
- Almond milk
- Chia seeds
- Hemp hearts
- Peanut butter
- (Optional) Agave nectar
Green Smoothie: Same thing as above but add spinach!
TIP: to avoid leafy chunks, blend the spinach with the almond milk before adding anything else!
Smoothie Bowl
Basically the same thing as a smoothie but thicker and more like ice cream. Add some quinoa puff cereal, hemp hearts, and granola for a DELICIOUS breakfast/snack/dessert all in one.
Rice Cake with Peanut Butter and Fruit
Super duper yummy! Arguably, it doesn’t have much nutritional benefit but it’s a great side-snack! Maybe combine it with a smoothie 😉
- Plain rice cake
- Peanut butter
- Blueberries/banana/strawberries
Oatmeal

This is my absolute go-to breakfast! It keeps me full for SO long and is super tasty!
- Oatmeal with water/almond milk/milk (experiment to see what you like!)
- Sunflower seeds
- Basically any fruit you want
Yogurt with Granola and Fruit
I’ve been really digging this lately. It’s basically the oatmeal recipe, but with vanilla yogurt instead of oatmeal. YUM!
Muffins
As a stand-alone, these aren’t very filling, but they make great additions to basically any other sweet breakfast. I use recipes from food blogs using whatever ingredients I want to use up quickly (cough zucchini cough) (cough frozen blueberries cough).
Waffles or Pancakes
I don’t have waffles and pancakes too often, but when I do they’re either Eggos or a funky online pancake recipe that almost falls apart but doesn’t. Ah well.
Leftover Pie!
I had to add this because… pie! Sometimes I’ll endeavor to create some beautiful pie, and of course there’ll be nothing else for breakfast for the next few days until that’s finished.
Hope you guys enjoyed this list. Let me know in the comments if you’ve got another awesome breakfast go-to idea I didn’t mention!
Happy breakfasting!

“Company” on Broadway in NYC
We decided to make our first night in New York City a Broadway night. I’m so glad we ended up choosing the musical “Company”… it completely blew me away! The story opens on the 35th birthday of Bobby, a bachelorette whose friends are all married couples. We then get to see vignettes of each couple’s…

what it means to be your own friend (feat. my last bathroom selfie in Goodes Hall)
Earlier today I took what will likely be my last bathroom selfie in Goodes Hall. (Hopefully in equal part because I’ll grow out of it and because I’m about to graduate from undergrad. 😋) Isn’t it an amazing feeling to be fascinated by an area of study? The utter excitement that comes along with it!…
