lifestyle || what i learned: my first month at Queen’s university
Hi! I’m Ioana and I’m studying Commerce at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. This is an update sort of video in which I talk about what university has been like so far, what I’ve learned and share some advice for high school students entering university!
P.s. So sorry about the poor quality – the night lighting combined with my front iPhone camera is not the best set-up. HOWEVER I am buying a real camera as soon as some black friday deals show up which I’m super excited about! I hope you find the content of the video valuable nonetheless.

“Company” on Broadway in NYC
We decided to make our first night in New York City a Broadway night. I’m so glad we ended up choosing the musical “Company”… it completely blew me away! The story opens on the 35th birthday of Bobby, a bachelorette whose friends are all married couples. We then get to see vignettes of each couple’s…

what it means to be your own friend (feat. my last bathroom selfie in Goodes Hall)
Earlier today I took what will likely be my last bathroom selfie in Goodes Hall. (Hopefully in equal part because I’ll grow out of it and because I’m about to graduate from undergrad. 😋) Isn’t it an amazing feeling to be fascinated by an area of study? The utter excitement that comes along with it!…

Hey Ioana 🙂
This is mostly unrelated to this post, but once you’ve settled into university and you’re feeling up to it, I think it would be really nice if you started a book club on Goodreads. Nothing huge, just like one book a month or something. From what you’ve mentioned in your videos, I quite enjoy your reading tastes.
In that spirit, I’m going to recommend a book to you if you haven’t read it: The Secret History by Donna Tartt. It’s one of my favourite books of all time, and I’m about to embark on my fourth reading of it. It’s set in a liberal arts college, so it might be fun to read now when you’re starting. Of course, much of the comparisons will end there as it’s an unusual college life these characters lead. But the characters are wonderfully vivid and interesting, as are the settings, and it’s beautifully written. Give it a read!
And best of luck with your adjustment to university life 🙂

I always love a good book recommendation, so thank you! It’s a struggle at the moment to make time for much else but school and friends, but I’m working hard to find a groove that will allow me to have time for my own hobbies. So I’ll be sure to check out the book, it sounds super interesting!

Hi Helene! Not sure if you’ll get an email from this reply but I was browsing through and came across this comment again! We have a book club now, so I thought I’d share it with you in case you want to join. Here is more info: https://mistralspirit.com/2021/05/11/would-you-join-a-book-club/
